Have Elites Decided to Legalize Some US Drugs?
The war on drugs has succeeded only in putting millions of Americans in jail ... Televangelist Pat Robertson recently made a gaffe. A gaffe, as journalist Michael Kinsley defined it, occurs when a political figure accidentally tells the truth. Robertson's truth is that America's drug war has failed and that the country should legalize marijuana. This view goes against the deepest political, moral and religious positions Robertson has held for decades, so imagine the blinding evidence that he has had to confront—and that has been mounting for years—on this topic. Robertson drew attention to one of the great scandals of American life. "Mass incarceration on a scale almost unexampled in human history is a fundamental fact of our country today," writes the New Yorker's Adam Gopnik. "Over all, there are now more people under 'correctional supervision' in America—more than 6 million—than were in the Gulag Archipelago under Stalin at its height." – Fareed Zakaria /Time
Dominant Social Theme: We need to legalize it now because we made a mistake in not legalizing it before.
Free-Market Analysis: What's going on here? The US has jailed tens of millions in the past decade over drug infractions. But now we seem to be seeing some re-thinking.
We usually speculate such campaigns are part of larger elite dominant social themes intended to manipulate public opinion. We think we detect such a pattern here.
First Pat Robertson writes about legalizing marijuana and then CNN's Fareed Zakaria writes about it as well. And that's not all.
A random search of Google shows that a bill to legalize medical marijuana is moving forward in the Tennessee House and that the Rhode Island Senate is discussing legalization as well. In Yakima, Washington, a former Seattle police chief and a former state senator will hold a public forum on the legalization of marijuana. Here's some more from the article:
Is this hyperbole? Here are the facts. The U.S. has 760 prisoners per 100,000 citizens. That's not just many more than in most other developed countries but seven to 10 times as many ... As Robertson pointed out on his TV show, The 700 Club, "We here in America make up 5% of the world's population but we make up 25% of the [world's] jailed prisoners."
There is a temptation to look at this staggering difference in numbers and chalk it up to one more aspect of American exceptionalism. America is different, so the view goes, and it has always had a Wild West culture and a tough legal system. But the facts don't support the conventional wisdom.
This wide gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world is relatively recent. In 1980 the U.S.'s prison population was about 150 per 100,000 adults. It has more than quadrupled since then. So something has happened in the past 30 years to push millions of Americans into prison.
That something, of course, is the war on drugs. Drug convictions went from 15 inmates per 100,000 adults in 1980 to 148 in 1996, an almost tenfold increase. More than half of America's federal inmates today are in prison on drug convictions.
In 2009 alone, 1.66 million Americans were arrested on drug charges, more than were arrested on assault or larceny charges. And 4 of 5 of those arrests were simply for possession. Over the past four decades, the U.S. has spent more than $1 trillion fighting the war on drugs.
Of course, at the Daily Bell we've written regularly about the US penitentiary-industrial complex. And we're not surprised that incarceration began to soar in the 1960s. This is part and parcel of what we consider to be directed history.
This is history that is organized and driven by a power elite that controls the world's central banks and is trying to create global government. This elite, especially what would seem to be its top dynastic families, apparently rule behind the scenes via what has been described as mercantilism.
These elites pass laws that benefit their interests at the expense of others. It benefits the elites in at least two ways to make drugs illegal. For one thing, the elites don't like to use their own money to pursue their goals. They use money generated via fiat central banking.
They also generate huge cash profits from the illegal smuggling that the West's top Intel agencies, including the CIA, are apparently involved in. This black cash funds black ops and increasingly private militias and policing.
It benefits the elites to have a large prison population in the US because doing so fractures families and creates societal dysfunction. The elites have seen the United States as a distinct threat to world government because of its republican culture and quasi-libertarian-mindset of millions of citizens.
The elites use dominant social themes to achieve their mercantilist aims. These memes are intended to scare Western middle classes into giving up power and wealth to internationalist facilities. One of these memes has been the "drug war" and the necessity to put drug addicts in jail to protect society. But now this meme seems to be coming under attack.
The people involved, like Robertson, may mean well but with addition of the CNN editorial (above) and various legislative moves, it would seem that something may be stirring. The mainstream media is controlled by the same elites that control central banking, in our view, and thus when something appears in aggregate on the mainstream media we tend to believe it is being presented for a purpose.
It is hard to say why the elites have decided to soften the rhetoric on the drug war at this time. One speculation would be that reducing drug usage penalties or eliminating them tends to blur the increasingly authoritarian line that Western governments are taking as regards "austerity" and other Draconian measures.
Or perhaps the inevitable sociopolitical debate over drugs will simply distract attention from other more important moves the elites are making to impose global government.
Conclusion: With many such themes, we are not entirely sure of their significance to begin with – or even if they constitute a real elite promotion. We are not sure what this seeming change in direction as regards the drug war means, either. Maybe viewers and feedbackers will have a better sense. As for us, we'll be watching.

This may sound overly conspiratorial, but could it be that the purpose of the drug laws all along was to justify the massive construction of prisons? Why would someone want to build so many prisons? Not primarily to make big bucks for prison builders. Maybe the idea from the beginning was to pass the drug laws to justify the construction of a massive prison system, then initially fill the prison system with drug offenders. Later on it would be discovered by the Establishment that the drug laws had failed, and huge numbers of prisoners on drug-related offenses would accordingly be let go, emptying the prisons and thus enabling the Establishment to repopulate the prison system from scratch with "extremists" opposed to things like endless wars and military buildups. Does this make any sense?
Reply from The Daily Bell
Makes as much sense as anything else in this increasingly insane spinning globe ...

DB: "Have Elites Decided to Legalize Some US Drugs?"
In general: "Have THEY again DECIDED to exercise CHOICE that is NOT THEIRS, for the simple reason THEY do not face, nor pay for the consequences?" or, to continue to be unjust.
Justice Defined: We are all free to profit or suffer and learn (adapt to excellence) by facing the consequences of our OWN choices. Injustice is to be forced to suffer the consequences of choices of unaccountable (irresponsible) others..
Ultimately, hopefully soon, we will grapple with the FACT that, politically and economically, the Nazis, after physical defeat in WWII just moved up the food chain and achieved political / economic control by the SAME actions, different pretexts (excuses). The Nazis opined:
In they area of collecting political power, "consent of the governed":
The Jews (and others deemed social undesirables) were legally decreed "subhuman", a hazard to common interest of "right thinking", "pure" Germans, requiring a "final solution", which, along with genocide was a feeding frenzy on the property of Jews and destroyed a large portion of the productive, professional and intellectual classes in Germany.
Elites observed this and noted the vast amount of political power and predatory exploitation profits that could be achieved by scapegoating some and pitting group against group. They also noted that the lesson of the Nazis was not lost on intelligent, morally aware people and, "final solutions" were unlikely to fly again in the near future without major public lobotomies. And yet, as predators and parasites, elites still "need" "pretexts to prey".
Some bright elite had an "Eureka moment" and realized "what if, rather than flogging the need to destroy some (socially unacceptable), we instead flog the need to help others?". Since we don't intend to pay for the "help", this requires the productive to do so and provides a rationalization for us and the institutions / professions we control to reap a hefty "helping" commission. We can easily publically demonize anyone whom is against "helping", as some sort of Nazi, guilty of our crimes while we "appear" to occupy the moral high ground". This will destroy our arch enemy, the "rule of law" (where all are to be treated EQUALLY, in terms of MEASURABLE rights and responsibilities, by law). If we are to prey, we cannnot have the "rule of law" (which took down our buddy Hitler and his cronies) in the way:
Co-opting the judiciary and legal "profession":
In Nazi Germany, so much public hate was created against the Jews and their impoverishing effects (really due to WWI reparations, inpoverishment by Treaty of Versailles) that any judge whom opined that "we are all people, with equal rights" faced public wrath and, if that was insufficient, the SS was there to explain the personnally terrifying consequences should judges not comply with the "party line".
Today, the SS is mainly covert, but the judiciary and legal "profession" realizes the incredible profits and infinite make work that can be achieved by pretending to "be fair" and, on a case by case basis determine whom is to be favored and whom is to be impoverished, with no objective standards, apart from maximize conflict and thus legal profit. When "all are not equally human, by law", the conflict to be milked is infinite. So much for the "law". They are "all in", self-deluded "master predators", doing what is "neccessary" (Machiavailli, falsely framed arguments).
Co-Opting the executive:
In Nazi Germany, this was easy. Dissdent and, the SS would "disappear" you, or worse, a major survival hit to dissent.
Today, I am sure the equivalent of a clandestine SS exists, to deal with particularly troubling members of the executive. For the majority of the executive "choosers", their pay and perks is far in excess of what is achieveable for the mediocore in the private sector. To dissent means to lose your "job", be thrown to the wolves and have to compete on merit. There can be no worse fate, nor terror for mediociore statist "tax eaters", than to lose theire position at the feding trough. Thus, the executive is STILL controlled by "terror of dissent" and will do what they are told.
Co-opting the people:
In Nazi Germany, it was terror, pure and simple.
Today, since the pretext is "helping", a few crumbs of "help" must be available. Not much, but sufficient over time to destroy the morality and work ethic of a large segment of the population, whom have become dependent with zero skills nor will to help themselves. This large underclass of unproductive (AKA OWS) is a looming threat to any politician or organized group whom places entitlements at risk.
There you have it. The Nazis militarily lost, but philosophically and politically won. The live among us, many of them your neighbors and family.
The only way to fight and defeat them before they take our entire civilization and perhaps species out is to personally and collectively insist on respect, by everyone, states and judiciary included for the "rule of law". This requires some cohones and serious risk taking. The choice is a chance that peaceful dissent may pervail versus the certainty of collective long term doom if our collective predators remain unopposed.

As always their plans have deep roots. I had always wondered about Barakcuda's entire existence let alone his legitimacy but germane to this article was the fact that he openly admitted to drug use in those books that someone wrote under his name during his run for the top of the heap.
Whether it was his right to consume drugs or not is irrelevant, it was illegal. He is not a run of the mill celebrity who would be almost encouraged by his/her agent to adopt a Bohemian lifestyle. He was technically running for an office where the content of character was once a clinching factor. Not only was he not called out for this, but in my observation even the rabid right gave him more or less a pass.
Rewind the mind to the campaign of BJ Clinton. There the people were exposed to 1) Smoked the evil weed but did not inhale (ha ha, lighten up folks) 2) Extra marital sex is OK, if not cool. 3) Any boy can grow up to be President, even a commie, draft-dodging Rhodes Scholar who travelled to Moscow while grunts were dying in Vietnam.
In my observation the US Presidency as an office demanding respect died, or more accurately was killed during 'Cigar' Bill's tenure. (Laughably he was re-elected while undergoing impeachment ,gotta love that TV).
But what is this? Even the tenure of the trained chimpanzee "Dubya' was filled with stories of cocaine use and DUI
episodes.
During these twenty years of having a President who admitted or was implicated in drug use, many traditional citizens have passed on or at least out of political activity and America has a whole new generation and a half of voting/thinking age citizens who may have been prepped for some sea change with respect the issue of drugs.
So then like DB, I have no definitive opinion on what is afoot but a perspective that this didn't just happen overnight may have some merit.
Cheers-

Ding, Ding, Ding... you win the prize with your side note!
Cashless world is imperative to "the agenda" and the black market is a liability.

DB, I have read your article and scanned all the comments, and am surprised there isn't anything said about Wachovia... .. 380 BILLION was laundered that was specific to Mexican drug money, they were fined 160 MILLION and no one went to jail! No link is needed here; just google "wachovia drug scandal". Then, they are swept under the rug by Wells Fargo. Is there a better testament to the banksters and their power?
I had to miss a few days of work in 1987 due to a motorcycle wreck, and was watching CSPAN of all things. There was a congressional investigation of banks and drug money laundering and a guy was testafying that had a thin moustache and Caribbean accent that seemed to have come off the set of "Miami Vice". He described how pallets of small bills were loaded on commercial airliners from L.A., El Paso, Miami, etc. and were sent on direct flights to where else... NYC. These pallets were the last thing on and first thing off. This guy was naming names and banks in NYC such as Chase Manhattan, etc. A congressman asked, "are you sure the banks knew this was drug money?" The witness laughed. Another congressman became angry and threw his pencil down and said, "We have been questioning this guy for a month, and nothing has been done about this". Big news: 25 years later and nothing has changed, except now they put the money on ATM cards. It is my guess that there may be some murmurings about legalizing drugs, and it may happen in pockets here and there, but for the most part they won't be legalized, and the border will never, ever be closed.

So, some functionary at the Democratic National Committee noticed that promising legalization of pot might bring back young and stupid voters who have defected to Ron Paul. They will never do it of course. The Du Ponts and Mellons will see to that, but hey, promises are cheap.

The technically inclined can work around this, since, if effective, only DNS (and NOT the intyernet) goes down. So, cache the addresses with a local DNS cache:

personally, I don't think Anonymous is so stupid, as to risk so much collateral damage and ill will. So, if true, somebody else is working to give Anonymous a "bad rep".

Hi! Long time reader, first time poster.
Just a thought here, Monsanto is beginning to feel the heat. What better way to make more money than to sell to a "proven" group of people? I would not doubt that they have already modified seeds and are just awaiting a market for them.
Probably more (much more) to it, ie Obama's re-election and all, but it seems a win-win for them.

The USA has promoted drugs big time ever since WWII! Abroad, the CIA was fielded to bring all the drug lords under one umbrella and funnel the "goods" to the great network established for our drug industry worldwide.
We Americans were supplanting the Brits, who had controlled the world network thanks to their takeover of the opium fields everywhere in the century before!
If you doubt this thesis, just go back to WWII and how we employed Lucky Luciano and his group to handle the logistics of supply for our armed forces that our generals could not. The Red Ball Express became the largest delivery enterprise in the world after 1945 and still is. It transports goods from everywhere in Asia, by truck all the way to Europe and its major payload is... you guessed it. Some say the VietNam war was really to consolidate the Asian Lucianos into the organization!
When a nation decides to solve its economics with drugs, well, anything goes.
For a long time, we preferred to deny the native product to our citizens since we gave them alternatives turned out by legitimate enterprises. We gave the public valium, etc while nature's other stuff brought in black money that never was declared but could be used just like the real money! The politicians accommodated this arrangement since they got their share! It was all acceptable because the public was kept in the dark.
However, with the Dawning of Aquarius, suddenly what was sub rosa became an explosive fashion and the money invloved was staggering and what was underground was taking the whole economy, not only in the SA but everywhere else!
Government decided to act lke they were governing in this situation. That is when we began jailing people, sending them for "therapy" and making public noises that the new situation would not be allowed. We built jails galore, filled them but the flood just got bigger, so big that even the "cartels" that controlled the black business could not monitor who was working it.
That was when the cries went up re legalization. It was so acceptable, everyone was doing it, so lets tax it just like we did with the manias re liquors and tobacco. But the legitimate drug industry made billions too, paid more taxes so what do we do?
If you think about it, the whole push for public health somehow has a tie in to this. I will let you professional economists work out those details.
The approach worked well in Europe and if we could sell both the legit and illegit through natuonalized clinics... well, what a bonanza.
We are racking up costs for the "world's humanity" across the board that no one seems to be able to even grasp. If we use the drug industry, legit and illegit as one, well who knows how much more we can spend worldwide!

The impetus for internet lockdown?

Al Gore may have finally met his match. While members of Anonymous aren't planning on inventing the internet, they are planning on destroying it -- supposedly.
The tricky thing about Anonymous is that they're Anonymous, so it's hard to differentiate fact from fictional prank, even if you want to. But a Pastebin has been posted dubbed "Operation Global Blackout", which claims that the Anons are going to test the limits of their distributed denial of service attacking capabilities at the end of March.
The DDOS campaign is expected to target the world's 13 domain name servers (DNSs), that allow the public to use the internet by translating human legible text-string URLs into machine-readable IP addresses. If the attack indeed materializes and if the DNS servers are all taken down, the Mayan apocalypse could come early -- the internet could blink offline.

Prohibition of booze solved nothing,so it was repealed. The booze trade went underground and created control by the Mafia. Prohibition of drugs has created the same problems. Cartels are making BILLIONS OF $$, while murdering
a hundred thousand people, many innocents. People are able to get all the drugs they want, if they need money to buy, they steal, mug, murder,
whatever it takes to get the FIX. We need to build ever bigger prisons to
incarcerate the sellers & users. We provide free food, lodging, medical, dental, computers, librarys, telephones, movies, conjugal visits. Not a
bad deal if you get caught.Lets legalize "ALL" drugs. Sell it openly to all.
It is controlled as is BOOZE & ALCOHOL. We don't build prisons, we raze prisons. We don't nurture the Cartels, they go out of business. We don't cause
murders, we save lives. We don't supply a subsidized lifestyle for inmates, we release them to provide their own. We eliminate most of our Southern border problems. LEGALIZE ALL DRUGS. I am not a seller or user of any drug.
I am 86 years old.

Could it be that they see a future need to make room for other types of "criminals"? Could it be that with the coming "changes" in the economy, more people will wake up and begin to protest what is happening? Could protesting and free speech expression become a threat to their rule that must be dealt with which would require more available jail space? Besides, people smoking pot are more likely to forget those types of problems. These are the only reasons I can think of.
If currently illegal drugs are made legal, their price would go down but then pharmacutical companies could market them so the guarded poppy fields could be used by industry. I would not be surprised if private growing of marijuanna is limited and/or regulated.

All the talk about legalizing marijuana is just that, talk. There is no way on earth the power elite is gonna let medical marijuana put pharma out of business. No they will continue to feed us chemical food till we get sick and then string us out on chemical medicine till we die.
I call diversion, maybe their is some sort of censored debate in the msm and then the experts will conclude that it is just too determental to society and in fact they need to absolutely forbid states to legalize medical marijuana.
Posted by 4sovereignty on 03/28/12 01:54 PM
I read an article online recently that said out troops in Afghanistan are guarding poppy fields. The USA is into drugs with CIA help. So maybe now there is big money in producing and selling drugs.

Elites? Maybe a synonym would be stupes. Any free adult can consume any chemical they want and suffer the consequences. Having somebody else control what I can buy and or ingest does NOT work! Why, Why why do we think laws are the answer to stupidity?
