- Politicians all over the world spend with abandon, burdening their citizens with confiscatory taxes, insurmountable debts and economic ruin…
- Central bankers shamelessly manipulate and inflate their currencies creating financial bubbles that ultimately burst, leaving shattered lives and businesses in their wake…
- Regulators and bureaucrats trample our freedoms, stifle innovation and disrupt business planning as they try to micromanage every aspect of our lives and businesses.
The dangerous lie that threatens your future
But you know what makes me the angrier than anything else?
It’s hearing know-nothing politicians and media talking heads throughout the world blame the free market – a free market that exists only in their imagination – for the financial crisis of the past few years.
And then demanding new and onerous regulations that will only serve to stifle the economy without doing anything to prevent future crises.
They conveniently ignore that it would take an entire library to house all the worldwide regulations that apply to the financial sector.
They ignore the government regulations and programs that encourage financial institutions to engage in risky behavior.
They ignore that two U.S. government corporations – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – were largely responsible for the real estate collapse that got the crisis rolling in the United States and helped it spread to the rest of the world.
And they ignore the role the world’s central banks – especially those in the U.S. Europe and China – played in the crisis with their boom-bust currency manipulations.
In other words, they’re spreading what I call a “dominant social theme.” A dominant social theme is a belief launched and spread by the liberal and internationalist elite that – through sheer repetition – ultimately becomes the conventional wisdom. And anyone who dares question it, by definition, is an extremist.
Introducing a new organization that lets you fight back
In my mind, it’s time to say “enough is enough.” Enough of the lies about the free market. Enough of politicians exploiting voter and citizen ignorance to impose “feel-good” legislation and regulations that kill prosperity and trample freedoms.
It's time to turn the tables on the enemies of freedom-and to spread the truth about the free market and the prosperity it brings everywhere it's tried.
However, I’m going to need your help to do it. My name is Anthony Wile. You may know me as the chief editor of The Daily Bell or as the author of the book High Alert: How the Internet and the global power elite are causing a financial hurricane – and how to profit from it.
But my real labor of love is a new nonprofit international organization I’ve started called The Foundation for the Advancement of Free Market Thinking (FAFMT).
This new organization is devoted to educating the world about the many blessings of freedom and free markets – the peace and prosperity they bring…the cooperation they cultivate…and the virtues they create.
Our point of view is informed by the economic wisdom of the Austrian School of Economics – especially the Austrian Theory of the Business Cycle.
First articulated by the great Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises in his 1912 classic The Theory of Money and Credit, this theory places the blame for the boom-bust business cycle right where it belongs – at the feet of the world’s central banks and their manipulation of the money supply.

And indeed, my colleagues and I are inspired in this work by these words from von Mises’ pen…
“The times call for courage. The times call for hard work. But if the demands are high, it is because the stakes are even higher. They are nothing less than the future of human liberty, which means the future of civilization.”
And I'm writing you today in the hopes that you'll help us take up von Mises' challenge to ensure that the flame of liberty continues to burn for decades to come all over the world, so that your children and grandchildren will have the opportunity to enjoy its fruits.
You see, the enemies of freedom are working overtime to extinguish liberty and to send Big Government crawling into every nook and cranny of your life. And the news media is squarely in their corner, supporting their efforts with lies and distortions that turn people away from freedom and toward Big Government.
We need to hit back – and we need to hit back hard. And that’s exactly what The Foundation for the Advancement of Free-Market Thinking is designed to do.
Our plan to make a better world
for your children and grandchildren
You see, we’re NOT a think tank or public-policy organization. We don’t produce research reports or make policy recommendations. Instead, we’re taking direct action to help educate people all over the world about the benefits of freedom and free markets.
We want the world to know why…
- The power of government needs to be strictly limited to protecting private property, keeping the peace, adjudicating legal disputes and providing for national defense…
- The U.S. Federal Reserve and other central banks must be abolished and replaced with currencies 100% backed by gold and/or other commodities…
- Welfare and other redistribution schemes need to be abolished and government spending rolled back at all levels by 60% to 90%…
- Government regulations – including sacred cows such as anti-trust laws, minimum wage laws and food and drug laws – must be repealed.
More importantly, we want to show people all over the world why every one of these steps is not only morally right, but is also in the best interest of everyone – especially the poorest of the poor, who stand to gain the most from a worldwide free market economy.
Why another organization devoted to the free market?
Of course, you may be wondering at this point why the world needs yet another organization to spread the truth about the free market. Don’t plenty of such organizations exist already?
The answer is simple. For more than 50 years, conservative and libertarian think tanks and policy organizations – many of them based in Washington, DC – have raised hundreds of millions of dollars to shrink the size and scope of governments.
Their promise is that with just one more research project, one more foundation grant, one more public relations effort, we will finally roll back Big Government.
But from what I’ve seen, while these organizations – working in countries all over the world – have done a lot of great research and produced a number of strong policy proposals, they have failed miserably to make any kind of dent in the size and scope of Big Government.
At last ... a free market organization that’s free
from the
trappings of political power and the compromises that go with it
For that reason, The Foundation for the Advancement of Free-Market Thinking is located far from Washington, DC and other centers of political power. We make our home in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, a small European country with an even smaller government.
Not only does this ensure that we don’t get caught up in the trappings of power, it also helps us maintain an international perspective, so we can fight for small government all over the world.
Better yet, because the Foundation is based in Liechtenstein, we're not held accountable to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-the tax collection arm of the U.S. government-and its restrictive and invasive policies. Nor are we beholden to any other giant tax-collection agency, which is also why we remain completely independent by not asking any government for tax-deductible status. The reason to donate, in the estimation of those involved with the Foundation, should be the cause itself. By not putting ourselves in the grasp of over-reaching tax departments, we are able to keep your identity and your donations 100% private from any intrusion.
